The Lehrhaus is excited to announce our first ever Essay Contest!
Who: Authors who have never published with Lehrhaus
What: A previously unpublished 1,500-3,500 word essay addressing the question:
“What crucial message or idea does today’s Jewish community need to understand?”
When: Submissions are due before Shabbat on Friday, June 14, 2019.
Criteria: Submissions will be assessed by Lehrhaus Editors on the basis of clarity of thought, analytical sophistication, effective use of supporting texts, and writing style.
Sample topics:

- How can fresh ideas help reinvigorate the 21st century American Jewish community?

- Is educating toward civil conversations a lost cause in today’s world?

- Reflections on the present and future of online discourse in today’s Jewish community
-
- What is the present and future of Talmud Torah in the internet age?

- How can we create a more fruitful exchange of ideas between Israeli and diaspora religious and thought leaders?
Submission Instructions:

- Submissions should be in the form of a Word document. The Word document should have a title, but not the author’s name. The document file name should have the words “Lehrhaus Essay Contest” and the title of the piece.

- Submissions should be emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. The subject line of the email should have the word “SUBMISSION” and the title of the piece.
Prizes:

- First prize – $150. Essay featured prominently on Lehrhaus site and social media, along with bio of the author.

- Second Prize – $100

- Third Prize – $50

- All submissions will be considered for publication.
